Cedar Warre Hive
Cedar Warre Hive
Made from SFI certified sustainable red cedar.
There is no need to paint anything (painted hives trap moisture), but we encourage you to consider finishing the exterior with Tung oil.
Tops of handles are mitered at 10 degrees to promote water run-off.
Fiberglass screen is provided to separate the quilt and top hive body, helping to minimize the propolizing of the natural canvas duck quilt bottom.
Comes with two hive bodies. Is easily expanded by adding more hive bodies.
Replacement top bars are available.
Cedar sawdust quilt filler material is included.
We do not offer hives with “viewing windows” please read this page to learn why not.
If you wish to assemble the hive yourself, please click here and read the assembly instructions before you order.
If you purchase an assembled hive with top bars, you can choose to have us prep and install the top bars for you, so that the hive is bee-ready when you receive it. Otherwise, you’ll need to prep and install the V-shaped top bars. Easy to follow written instructions can be found here and a very helpful video about hive preparation can be seen by clicking here.
If you purchase an assembled hive with frames and metal frame rests (we used to refer to this as a “modified Warre hive”), you can choose to have us assemble your frames for you, so that the hive is (mostly) bee-ready when you receive it (see note below). If you choose to assemble the frames yourself, easy to follow written instructions can be found here and a very helpful video about frame assembly can be seen by clicking here.
Tip: If you are using top bars only (not frames) you can make your hive more manageable by applying Tung oil to the top side of each top bar. Review the written instructions to learn more, as this is not discussed in the video.
